A Christmas About Jesus

What would Christmas look like without all the busyness and stress? Let's start from scratch, and focus on what this season is really about: preparing our hearts for the Savior.

Sunday, December 1

Luke 1:5-25 | Zechariah and Elizabeth had their lives interrupted in old age when God blessed them with a child who would prepare the way of the Lord.

Monday, December 2

John 1:1-18 | With the birth of Jesus—the Word made flesh—the true Light was coming into the world.

Tuesday, December 3

Luke 19:1-10 | Jesus interrupted Zaccheus’s life when He invited Himself to his house.

Wednesday, December 4

Isa 60:1-3 ; 19-20 and Luke 4:14-30 | Isaiah and other Old Testament prophets foretold the coming of Jesus, the Light of the world.

Thursday, December 5

Isaiah 9:2-7 | The prophesied Messiah will come not only for the Jewish people, but for the nations.

Friday, December 6

Hebrews 1:1-14 | In the coming of Jesus Christ, God speaks clearly and definitively.

Saturday, December 7

John 15:1-11 | No matter what circumstances we encounter, we will bear fruit when we abide in Jesus, the true Vine.

Sunday, December 8

Matthew 1:18-25 | When God interrupted Joseph’s wedding plans with a Baby, Joseph submitted to the work of the Lord.

Monday, December 9

Isaiah 11:1-10 | Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would descend from Jesse who is better known as King David’s father.

Tuesday, December 10

Isaiah 53:1-12 | Written about 700 years before Jesus’ birth, Isaiah 53 prophesies Jesus’ life of submission.

Wednesday, December 11

Hebrews 11:32-40 | Old Testament believers looked forward in faith to the work of God that would be clearly revealed with the coming of Jesus.

Thursday, December 12

Ephesians 3:1-12 | Through His church—of which we are part—God makes known His wisdom to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.

Friday, December 13

John 4:1-30 | Jesus first revealed Himself as Messiah to a Samaritan woman, and with a few questions changed the trajectory of her entire life.

Saturday, December 14

Psalm 131:1-3 | Submission is possible when we can rest like a child held in a parent’s arms.

Sunday, December 15

Luke 1:26-38 | Mary’s statement of “I am the Lord’s servant” reveals the heart of her response to God’s work through her and provides a clear example for us today.

Monday, December 16

Luke 1:46-55 | Mary responds with a hymn of praise to the Lord’s work in and through her.

Tuesday, December 17

Isa 40:1-5, 28-31 | Written originally to comfort those who would return from captivity in Babylon, the gospel writers see in this passage the promise of the coming of God in Christ as announced by John the Baptist. This is the everlasting God who renews the strength of those who hope in Him!

Wednesday, December 18

Luke 1:39-45 | Both Elizabeth and her unborn child, John the Baptist, respond with joy when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, arrives at their home.

Thursday, December 19

Ephesians 1:3-14, Galatians 2:20-21 | As believers in Jesus, we are described both as being “in Christ” and as having Christ living in us.

Friday, December 20

Ephesians 2:1-10 | Having been saved by grace through faith from a former way of transgression and death, we can now walk in the good works which God has prepared in advance for us to do!

Saturday, December 21

2 Corinthians 5:14-21 | Because God reconciled us to Himself through Christ, believers can now live as His ambassadors in this world!

Sunday, December 22

Luke 2:1-21 | The first people to tell the world about the birth of Jesus were shepherds!

Monday, December 23

Matthew 28:16-20 | Jesus calls His followers then and now to bring the good news about Him to the whole world!

Tuesday, December 24

Luke 2:22-40 | As Simeon and Anna waited for and witnessed the first coming of Jesus, believers today long for and await His sure return.

Wednesday, December 25

Luke 2:1-21, Revelation 21:1-7 | Christmas is not the end of the story! Jesus both broke the power of sin and of death, and is making all things new!
